Long Term Weight Loss Is Achieved Through Long Term Exercise
This week yet another study has confirmed that losing weight (and keeping it off) requires more effort than we initially imagined. Apparently, we really do have to “work our butts off” to be fit for life. It seems that half an hour a day is not going to cut it. Obese women in this study had to exercise for at least an hour a day to maintain their weight losses.
One commenter simply said that a better idea would be to not become overweight in the first place. Well, the train has already left that station! Still, parents need to take heed – once a child becomes substantially overweight, he or she is likely to struggle with that weight for a lifetime.
Perhaps it is easiest to intervene at the very earliest stages of our lives. As for me (and the >3000 of us in my weight loss group) it looks like I’ll be trying to get a full hour of exercise in every day! Care to join me?

You are telling me! The first problem is to get what is already on off. That takes more than just an hour’s exercise. Both my hips have been replaced and revised and so there are somethings that I can do, and most that I cannot. Try not to eat! It is a non stop battle!!
Sure Dr. Val! I will join you 🙂
Although exercise is an integral part of weight control , it is highly overrated for weight loss. If you weight 180 lbs one would have to swim 7 1/2 miles at 25 yds/minute or walk at 4 miles/hour for 8 hours (32 miles) to lose one pound. Taking the stairs a flight or two or parking your car further away in the parking lot is wonderful for a myriad of reasons, but weight loss is not one of them. Admittedly there are a few people based on their genetics who can lose significant weight from exercise but they are the exception, not the rule. Finally, although an 8-10% long term weight loss is important for prevetion, improvement or delay of co-morbid conditions like diabetes and hypertension, from a physical perspective, few would be satisfied. (300 lbs-270lbs=10%) however 140-126=10% make a big difference physically as well
Rather than diseases, obese persons are growing in huge numers this days. This obesity is dur to junk food available at the road side. This cases can mainly seen in women, because they have a fast fat forming capblilty in their bodies. To reduce this problem, either we go to doctor or else a daily exercise can make up. Especially, the Obese women have to exercise for at least an hour a day to maintain their weight losses.
